Great-West Financial® partners with PGA tour golfer Jason Dufner

“The Duf”and Great-West sign multi-year sponsorship

Winner of 2016 CareerBuilder Challenge off to tremendous start

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., January 28, 2016 — Great-West Financial® today unveiled a new sports marketing campaign with a multi-year partnership featuring PGA Tour player Jason Dufner.

Dufner — also known as “The Duf”— is off to a great start this year with Sunday’s victory at the CareerBuilder Challenge in Quinta, California. He currently ranks No. 8 on the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup standings.

“At Great-West we’re committed to helping our clients succeed. We’ll highlight that through our new partnership with a champion athlete,” said Bob Shaw, president of Individual Markets for Great-West Financial. “Jason Dufner has an excellent track record of winning in a very competitive sport. He’s a great brand ambassador for Great-West.

“We’re delighted to have Jason as a partner. We wish him every success this season,” said Shaw. “He’s off to a tremendous start this year.”

Dufner has enjoyed many successes in recent years. In 2013, he finished strong in the Masters, US Open and Open Championship. He also won his first major tournament – the PGA Championship that year. In 2012, he won his first PGA Tour event – the 2012 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. He followed his win in the Big Easy with his second PGA Tour victory at the HP Byron Nelson Championship. During that successful 2012 season, Dufner ranked 6th in the Official World Golf Ranking, a career high.

“Preparation and attention to detail are key to success in achieving long-term goals. That’s been true in my golf career, and I know Great-West uses that same approach in guiding their customers to secure financial futures,” said Dufner. “I’m thrilled to team with Great-West and look forward to a successful partnership."

After overcoming a neck injury in 2014 and 2015, Dufner resumed his winning ways with victories at the 2016 CareerBuilder Challenge and at last month’s Franklin Templeton Shootout with fellow PGA Tour golfer Brandt Snedeker.

Along with promotion of the Great-West brand, the affiliation includes various engagement opportunities with Great-West clients and partners. The Great-West logo also will be displayed on Dufner’s shirt throughout the PGA Tour season.

“Our goal is to constantly seek new ways to connect with customers and advisors,” said Stephen Jenks, Chief Marketing Officer for Great-West Financial. “Thanks to the popularity of the PGA Tour and Jason’s successes, we can elevate Great-West’s visibility before a new audience.”

The PGA Tour estimates that each year some 55 million Americans watch at least five golf tournaments on television, and 8 million people attend a PGA Tour event.

The sponsorship with Dufner represents an extension of Great-West’s brand campaign, announced last year.

“We launched a new brand identity for Great-West last fall. In 2016, we’re taking it to the next level,” said Jenks. “With winning partners like Jason Dufner, we can have more conversations with more people about Great-West Financial.”

Dufner, 38, turned pro in 2000. He’s been on the PGA Tour since 2001. The Cleveland native played collegiate golf at Auburn University where he was an All American Honorable Mention. In 2014, Dufner founded Jason Dufner's Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit committed to ending child hunger in Lee County, Alabama.

In addition to the Dufner sponsorship, Empower Retirement recently announced a sponsorship with PGA Tour golfer Robert Streb.
