Summer Actuarial Internship FAQ’s
What kind of actuarial candidate is Great-West looking for?
A 3.25 minimum GPA is required. Candidates with an actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or financial background are preferred. Great-West may consider actuarial interns for its full-time actuarial student program at the conclusion of their internship.
Does Great-West pay relocation costs for actuarial interns?
Great-West reimburses reasonable relocation costs for out-of-state participants.
What salary could an actuarial intern expect at Great-West?
Intern salaries are competitive in the actuarial marketplace and are based on the individual’s past experience, expected year of graduation, and number of actuarial exams passed. Interns may be eligible for salary increases when they pass actuarial exams during the internship.
What type of work does an actuarial intern typically perform?
Actuarial interns are placed in one of Great-West’s departments, which could include Individual Markets, Asset Liability Management, 401(k), Investments, or Valuations. Interns work in close contact with other actuaries and are directly supervised by a senior actuarial student, FSA, or department manager. Interns may be assigned one or several projects for the summer and are expected to give a final presentation of their work at the conclusion of their internship. Interns may also be asked to work together on non-department-specific projects. Standard work weeks generally consist of 36 hours worked from Monday through Friday, with core business hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Interns may arrange specific schedules in accordance with the department’s needs.
